The mechanization-oriented technology for shallot planting is a suitable solution which has a positive impact on changing the style of farming and reducing labor costs and increasing the efficiency in the process of planting shallot. In this research using an automatic planting device, the kinematics of shallot seed feed roller is calculated, designed and surveyed for correct positioning of the shallot in the created hole. This is done by the aid of Autodesk Inventor Professional and Matlab Simulink software. Working principle Diagram of planting shallot device is presented and the design parameters were optimized, and the stability of the suspension system used in the device was investigated.

Nowadays, in order to increase construction of tall structures, the importance of choosing optimum systems, with a huge energy absorption capacity against wind and earthquake loads, has been widely considered. Since four decades ago, steel shear walls had been used as a stiff and high performance lateral system. This study is about the effect of concrete filled steel tubes (CFT) columns as vertical boundary elements of steel shear wall on seismic behavior of steel structures. Due to do this, three 10-storey steel structures, with similar plans and lateral load career systems of steel shear wall, coinciding X-bracing, and moderate steel frame were analyzed by means of non-linear, time-history method through SAP2000 software, and the results of roof displacement of them were compared with each other. Also after validating a two-storey, single-span frame sample with steel shear walls and CFT columns, 3 single-storey structures were analyzed by means of hysteresis and pushover, through ABAQUS software. The results of this study showed that a shear wall system presents suitable stiffness, resistance and ductility in comparison with other lateral bearing systems.

The objective of this research is to determine the location for the dock and office of naval bases in Padang city of Indonesia. Following this objective, the Regional Government of Padang Mentawai Islands District provides 3 (three) alternative places namely in Semabuk Bay, Siuban Bay, and Semebai Bay for the location of dock and office of Naval Base. For the selection of Mentawai base, the method uses BORDA and PROMETHEE, since the methods can consider alternative evaluation based on factors that are both qualitative and quantitative. Based on the research of BORDA method calculation on 16 naval base selection criteria, it is found that criterion of Sailing Flow maintains the highest weight value that is equal to 10.9% and the lowest criterion weighted value belongs to criterion Political Condition for about 2%. For the results of ranking against the alternative using the Promethee method, the study obtains Semebai Bay as the best location to serve for the location of the base of the Mentawai Naval Base.

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a process of welding materials that generates heat through friction. Plastic deformation, nonlinear material movement, tool-to-structural evolution friction, and heat production from friction and plastic deformation all have an impact on FSW operation. In this paper, thermo-mechanical characteristics of aluminum alloy AA6061-T6 during the FSW process were simulated based on COMSOL® software using a finite element approach. A conceptual model was created to interpret the thermal and structural analyses. According to the obtained results, the temperature rises on the top and bottom surfaces as the axial force increases but decreases along the line perpendicular to the weld direction. The overall temperature decreases as the forward welding speed rises within the acceptable induced temperature range of the workpiece, while the axial force and rotational speeds stay stable.

The challenge of improving construction safety performance is observed in many countries. Safety is considered by practitioners and researchers as an important topic in construction industry sites. Despite the findings of implementing safety programs, it is revealed that accidents and injuries are not perfectly reduced in construction projects. In the literature, authors tried to establish several frameworks and proposed methods to reach this objective by identifying the key factors affecting safety performance. The aim of this study is to present critical factors used in the implementation of safety programs and to explore their relationships using Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM). Then, via ISM technique, the overall structure among factors was revealed. By using the Fuzzy MICMAC analysis, the factors were classified into four groups based on their driving power and dependence power. The results showed that “Safety Training” and “Management Commitment” have the most important impact on safety programs, but also it is very important to study the interactions among factors at different stages. This analysis offers key resources for practitioners and decision makers by analyzing the relationships between factors and its driving or dependence strength. These results shed lights on the effective development of measures to facilitate the implementation of safety programs in the construction sector.

Concepts for aggregate modeling and simulation are presented and applied for the setting of the parameters of a CONWIP flow control system within the steel products cell at Grand Rapids Chair, a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment. Aggregation was accomplished by combining the over 100 types of products into one. This resulted in a single arrival process, routing modeled as random movement through workstations, and a single operation time distribution for each production operation. Aggregation reduced the effort required for model development, data analysis, validation, and simulation. The CONWIP control was shown to be effective in managing the work-in-process. A CONWIP parameter of 50 resulted in an equivalent throughput to that achieved with no limit on work-in-process. Lead time can be reduced by approximately 20% by increasing the CONWIP parameter to 58.

The development of the shipbuilding industry is expected to meet the needs of the Indonesian Navy and the commercial vessels, and to support Indonesia's marine policy. The purpose of this study is to see the Shipbuilding industry Competitiveness, the influence of Technology Transfer to the Shipbuilding industry Competitiveness, and the influence of the industrial clusters on the Shipbuilding industry Competitiveness, as well as to analyze the institutional model of the Shipbuilding industry Competitiveness. This study uses the descriptive analysis, the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) for the model causality testing, and the Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM) for the institutional model of the competitiveness of the Shipbuilding Industry. This study uses the primary data, namely a survey of defense industry players, the national industry, the defense equipment users, the government institutions, the research institutes, and the universities that are determined purposively. ISM data are obtained from questionnaires and Forum Group Discussion (FGD) with 13 speakers representing academia, industry, and government. The results of the analysis of SEM state that the indicators on the industrial clusters, the competitiveness, and the technology transfer have a significant and real contribution to these variables. This research also shows that the industrial clusters and the technology transfer have a direct and significant effect on the competitiveness and the industrial clusters directly and significantly affect the technology transfer. However, the industrial clusters also have an indirect effect on competitiveness through the technology transfer to the shipbuilding industry. The results of the analysis of ISM conclude that the stakeholders involved have the greatest driving force, namely the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, while the important factor affected by the stakeholders in strengthening the competitiveness of the shipbuilding industry is the Indonesian Navy Headquarters.

The article deals with stress separation using different experimental techniques and their comparison to numerical and theoretical solutions. The method is applied to a keyhole sample coupon, to which measurements of fringe order, temperature or displacement were made using photo-elasticity, TSA (Thermo-elastic Stress Analysis) and DIC (Digital Image Correlation). The results are compared to FEM simulations (Finite Element Method) using the stress concentration factor (Kt) as a benchmark. Additionally, an Airy stress function is proposed and tested against obtained measurements. The comparison of Kt shows agreement among measurements as well as numerical and theoretical results. It is concluded that the presented method can be used for isotropic materials subjected to the plane stress, where stress variation through-thickness is negligible.

In recent years, many studies on scheduling problems with dedicated machines have been carried out. But, few of them have considered the case of more than two stages. This paper aims at filling this gap by addressing the three-stage hybrid flow shop scheduling problem with two dedicated machines in stage 3. Each job must be processed, consecutively, on the single machines of stages 1 and 2, and depending on its type, it will be further processed on one of the two dedicated machines of stage 3. The objective is to find an optimal schedule that minimizes the maximum completion time (makespan). Since this problem is strongly NP-hard, we first provide some basic results including solutions for several variations of the problem. Then, for the general case we adapt a set of lower bounds from the literature and propose a heuristic approach that is based on the dynamic programming technique, which uses a local search procedure. Finally, various experimentations on several problems with different sizes are conducted and the computational results of the heuristic show that the mean percentage deviation value from the lower bound was lower than 0.8 percent for some instances with 40 to 200 jobs in size.

Due to the important environmental effects on human life and the conflict between the mining process and environmental factors, the enactment of protectionist environmental laws in the mineral industry has received extensive attention especially in countries with high mining potential. In this regard, using an extended fuzzy TOPSIS method, this study develops a novel conceptual framework to identify the key protection laws in Iran by considering the mineral successful laws and regulations in mineral-developed countries such as Australia, Chile, India, Turkey, Canada, South Africa, and China. This helps to apply the experiences of the abovementioned countries in resolving similar conflicts in Iran’s mineral industry. The key protection laws are selected based on their national and international environmental treaties, mines’ environmental protection laws, conflict solution methods, social responsibilities in mining activity, and laws for the abandoned mines. The proposed framework demonstrates that Iran’s mineral laws require revision and more transparency to avoid ambiguity and conflict with mineral property laws and governmental rights.
