This study examined the association between fair value accounting and reliability of accounting information. The study adopted survey research along with quantitative methods. Users of the accounting information represented by corporate investment analysts and corporate portfolio managers were the respondents for the purpose of this study. The population size was one hundred and sixty-one (161) users of accounting information decomposed into one hundred (100) corporate investment analysts and sixty-one (61) corporate portfolio managers. The primary source of data was employed with the structured questionnaire as an instrument used to collect the data. Data was collected through the administration of 161 copies of the questionnaire to both corporate investment analysts and corporate portfolio managers. One hypothesis was formulated and was tested using the Pearson product moment correlation technique at a significant level of 5% and 10% while the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was engaged to analyze the data. Findings revealed a significant association between fair value accounting and reliability of accounting information of the firms in Nigeria. Hence, the study recommended that adequate and regular training programs and conferences on fair value accounting application have to be organized. This is because most of the employees of the companies in Nigeria did not understand how to use fair value in an inactive market, appropriately. Thus, it is of great importance that they were trained to understand different valuations and estimation techniques of fair value; how and when to apply them in the measurement of assets and liabilities in the financial statement.

The present study examined the effects of cashless policy on financial inclusion in the Nigerian emerging economy. The necessary data were collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria Economic Reports as well as Statistical Bulletin and the ordinary least squares method was applied to analyze the data. The findings reveal that the cashless policy maintained a non-significant relationship with financial inclusion both in urban and rural areas of Nigeria. The findings show that the cashless policy had a significant effect on increasing customers’ deposits in commercial banks of Nigeria. Volume of Automated Teller Machine (ATMVL) maintains a positive and significant effect on financial inclusion indicators in urban center compared with the rural areas. Volume of Point of Sales (POSVL) shows more significant and positive influence on financial inclusion in urban area than the rural area. However, Web Based Technique (WBTVL) reveals a non-significant effect on financial inclusion both in urban and rural centers. The study therefore recommends that more branches of commercial banks and ATM centers/outlets should be opened in rural urban centers with efficient network systems and security in order to enhance banking penetration and by extension effectiveness of the financial inclusion and poverty reductions.

Making rational decisions in times of uncertainty is an important capability required of marketing managers. However, choosing the precise quantitative decision-making technique or a combination of such tools usually presents managers with a score of challenges. To lessen this challenge, this single case research demonstrates how the choice of three Bayesian decision models (Laplace criterion, Savage minimax regret, and Hurwicz coefficient of realization) can reduce uncertainty in content marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), and referral marketing decision. We employed the case study approach to enable direct access to the decision-making process of the case organization, and to collect relevant data relating to the three marketing decision variables. Results show that, although the Laplace criterion may not have a direct effect on content marketing decisions, it influences the decision-making process leading to the creation and promotion of content. The Savage minimax regret had a direct bearing on SEO decision-making. Hurwicz's coefficient of realization yielded no direct impact on referral marketing but shows the possibility of influencing decision-making processes that led to the development and implementation of referral marketing campaigns. The implications are discussed.

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a decision making tool based on linear programming for measuring the relative efficiency of a set of comparable units. DEA helps us identify the sources and level of inefficiency for each of the inputs and outputs. This approach has been used to evaluate the efficiency of the safety department in five construction companies. A three-input, safety workforce, safety training, and safety budget, and two-output, Perfect days and Uptime, constant returns-to-scale (CRS) model was developed. The model indicated the necessary improvements required in the inefficient unit’s inputs and outputs to make it efficient, by identifying what factor is responsible for the low efficiency of performance, and also what factor should be improved in order to improve the efficiency of the safety department. The result shows that the safety department of firm A, B and D are efficient, but Firm C and Firm E can improve their efficiency by reducing inputs up to 3.34% and 6.05%, respectively. The inputs identified for reduction were; number of safety staffs and safety budget for Firm C and E respectively.

This study perused the impact of E-banking services on customer satisfaction of selected bank customers in bank branches located in Challenge, Dugbe, Agbeni, Gbagi, Ojoo, and Secretariat districts in Ibadan metropolis. The study employed a cross-sectional survey design and convenience sampling technique. One hundred (100) bank customers were surveyed through a self-report questionnaire. Four research questions and two hypotheses were tested using Pearson correlation analysis and, t-test for independence at p≤ 0.05. The results revealed high utilization of electronic banking products (ATM (98%), internet banking (85%), electronic transfer (97%). Constraints experienced include internet network failure, bank fraud and business loss due to failed e-transactions. Customers were satisfied with e-banking due to its cashless nature, cash accessibility, saves time from bank visitation and seamless transactions. The study exhibited that customers used and were glad with e-banking products. Customers’ segmentation and more investment in e-banking infrastructure were advised for promoting electronic banking services.

The general objective of this study is to examine the relationship among financial accountability, ethical issues and organizational citizenship behaviour, in a national economic system. The null hypothesis of the study examined the inverted trajectories of the variables. The work is situated within the context of Nigeria’s national economy, which typifies a fragile economic system. We have argued in the work that the fragility of the Nigerian national economic system (which is representative of similar economies among developing nations) is a function of its input-output processes. The study essentially finds that to reverse the trend of fragility in an economic system (a national economic system) in the context of developing economies, the issues of financial accountability, ethical questions and great organizational citizenship behaviour must in their combinatory format, be elevated to the status of a national imperative. We found in the work, that ethical regeneration is antecedent to institutional reform, in the schemata of mechanisms, for reversing the tendency of fragility, in troubled economic systems, classifiable as developing or underdeveloped.

The improvement in the provision of banking services to customers enhances bank’s performance (profitability and productivity) and the amounts of dividend declared to shareholders as well as bank’s competitiveness. One means of fast tracking the service time for bank customers is through the use of self-servicing machines, such as automated teller machine (ATM). Total service cost, expected waiting time in queue, ATM utilization and percentage of customer loss are some of the performance indices that are used to evaluate the service rendered by a bank’s ATM. This study proposes a framework for evaluating the performance of ATM by integrating queuing model and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) methodology. Applicability of the framework was tested using practical data obtained from four banks in Nigeria. It was observed that the average ATM usage in the study area was less than 50%. The TOPSIS results identified Bank A as the best ranked bank. In addition, the results obtained revealed that banks with two ATM were ranked higher than banks with more than two ATM.

The objective of this paper is to determine the effect of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as a new accounting reporting among Nigerian listed firms. This study uses book value, earnings and dividends to fill in the gap using a sample of 126 Nigerian listed firms in the stock market from 2009 to 2013 (pre and Post-IFRS adoption). Data was collected from Thompson Reuters, Bank scope DataStreams and annual reports. The study adopted Ohlson (1995) [Ohlson, J. (1995). Earnings, book-value, and dividends in equity valuation. Contemporary Accounting Research, 11(2), 661–687.] price model that has been frequently used in determining the quality of accounting information studies. The study finds that combined book value, earnings and dividends do not provide statistical significance effects on IFRS after adoption on the quality of accounting information. This could be possible, as dividends do not provide a significant effect in the presence of earnings. Furthermore, the audit big 4 quality provided an effect on the quality of accounting information because of IFRS adoption. Therefore, findings of this study provide additional literature on the decreasing quality of accounting information in an emerging market setting like Nigeria. The study implication is to the policy makers, regulators, and government that accounting information do not provide value relevance among Nigerian listed firms after IFRS adoption.

BRICS connotes five main emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are particularly distinguished as nations experiencing expanded market opportunities and countries discovered to be at stages of newly advanced economic development. This paper assesses the stock market development and economic growth in these BRICS nations. In doing this, quarterly time series data from 1994 to 2014 was sourced from World Bank Indicators. The Panel Generalized method based on the fixed effect estimation was employed to determine how stock market development affects the economic growth of BRICS. Diagnostic tests were conducted to ascertain the robustness and stability of the regression results after carrying out the unit root calculations. The findings reveal that stock market development exerts significant impact on the economic growth. The study further reveals that there was a positive correlation between stock market development indicators and BRICS’s economic growth. It is therefore proposed that the weaknesses of each of the BRICS member countries should be taken as policy focus and strategies necessary to strengthen them should be swiftly applied by their respective governments.

The global value chain (GVC) recognizes post production processes that involve socio economic engagements of stakeholders with electrical and electronic equipment (EEE or e-products) at their near or end of life. This paper attempts to measure some of the key social, economic, environmental, and sustainability indicators in line with GVC for lithium-ion batteries from e-products at their near or end of life. The assessment was based on the socioeconomic impacts on the battery sector for managing spent lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries in Southeastern Nigeria. The study methodology highlighted strategic features in line with socioeconomic assessment by deploying questionnaire administration. Ten (10) local government areas (LGAs) were purposely selected from five mutually exclusive States, with 100 stakeholders investigated. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze data for innovation potentials for the battery recycling/refurbishing sector, and discussed accordingly under sustainability, social, economic and environmental impacts. The socioeconomic drivers (or outcomes) for the recycling and refurbishing of lithium ion batteries touched on self-sustainability, institutionalization, service demand, service utilization and prevalence.
