This study emphasizes circular supply chain management (CSCM) implementation model development for Micro, Small, and Medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the context of India by using the Extended Theory of Planned Behavior (ETPB) and Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method of decision making. This study identifies seven factors to develop ETPB with the help of experts and literature surveys. The DEMATEL method is used to analyze the prominence of factors, interrelationships, and causal relationships between the identified ETPB factors based on experts' opinions. The results indicate that there are three cause factors and the rest four are effect factors. ‘Social Pressure’, ‘Circular Incentives’, and ‘Pro-environmental Behavior and Responsibility’ are the significant causes. The Inbound Supply Chain is the prominent factor affected by all the six factors of ETPB. The research findings will be beneficial for academicians, policymakers, and practitioners as they provide insights into CSCM model development and help in recognizing significant measures to implement it.

Here, we consider the generalized travelling salesman problem (GTSP), which is a generalization of the travelling salesman problem (TSP). This problem has several real-life applications. Since the problem is complex and NP-hard, solving this problem by exact methods is very difficult. Therefore, researchers have applied several heuristic algorithms to solve this problem. We propose the application of genetic algorithms (GAs) to obtain a solution. In the GA, three operators—selection, crossover, and mutation—are successively applied to a group of chromosomes to obtain a solution to an optimization problem. The crossover operator is applied to create better offspring and thus to converge the population, and the mutation operator is applied to explore the areas that cannot be explored by the crossover operator and thus to diversify the search space. All the crossover and mutation operators developed for the TSP can be used for the GTSP with some modifications. A better combination of these two operators can create a very good GA to obtain optimal solutions to the GTSP instances. Therefore, four crossover and three mutation operators are used here to develop GAs for solving the GTSP. Then, GAs is compared on several benchmark GTSPLIB instances. Our experiment shows the effectiveness of the sequential constructive crossover operator combined with the insertion mutation operator for this problem.

A simple and effective multi-attribute decision-making method, named as BHARAT method, is proposed in Part-1 of this paper and the same method is used now as a multi- and many-objective decision-making method for evaluating the Pareto optimal solutions. The proposed BHARAT method is used to identify the best compromise Pareto solution. Based on their importance for the given optimization problem, the objectives are ranked, and the weights are assigned. The weights of the objectives and the normalized values of the objectives for different Pareto optimal solutions are used to compute the total scores. The total scores are used to differentiate the alternative optimal solutions and an alternative solution that gets the highest total score is suggested as the best compromise solution. Three case studies are presented to illustrate and validate the proposed BHARAT method. The case study 1 is a multi-objective optimization problem related to cloud manufacturing with 3 objectives and 20 alternative solutions; case study 2 is a many-objective optimization problem of electro-discharge machining process with 4 objectives and 50 alternative solutions; case study 3 is a many-objective optimization of milling process parameters with 4 objectives and 100 alternative solutions. The outcomes of the suggested BHARAT method are compared with those of the other popular decision-making approaches for each of the three case studies considered. The suggested simple and more logical BHARAT method can be used in multi- and many-objective optimization problems to select the best compromise solution.

A simple and effective multi-criteria decision-making methodology named as “Best Holistic Adaptable Ranking of Attributes Technique (BHARAT)” is proposed that can be used in single- as well as group decision-making scenarios of the industrial environment. The attributes data for various alternatives can be quantitative or qualitative (i.e., expressed in linguistic terms). This paper proposes to transform the qualitative attributes into quantitative attributes by means of simple linear scales rather than complex fuzzy scales. The proposed BHARAT method normalizes the data with reference to the “best” alternative corresponding to an attribute and the normalization procedure is repeated for all the attributes to get the normalized data. A group of decision-makers or a decision-maker assigns ranks to the attributes according to how important they are deemed to be, and these ranks are then transformed into the proper weights. The total scores of the alternatives are calculated by multiplying the weights of the attributes by the corresponding normalized data of the attributes for different alternatives. Four industrial case studies are presented to illustrate the potential of the suggested BHARAT method. The first case study deals with the problem of an automated warehouse selection for a large industrial plant involving a single decision-maker, 13 attributes, and 4 alternative warehouses; the second case study deals with the problem of sustainable maintenance service provider selection for a large petrochemical plant involving fuzzy group decision-making with 5 decision-makers, 9 attributes, and 4 alternative maintenance service providers; the third case study deals with the problem of alternative strategy selection for implementation of a make-to-order system for passenger car manufacturers involving 6 factors, 18 sub-factors, and 3 alternative strategies; and the fourth case study deals with the problem of process parameters selection in a sustainable high speed turning operation involving 4 attributes and 9 alternative sets of experimental conditions. The results of the proposed decision-making method and its second version are compared with the other popular decision-making methods. The proposed method and its another version are proved simple, effective, powerful, flexible, easy to apply, do not require the use of fuzzy logic, offer logical and consistent procedures to assign weights to the attributes, and are applicable to different decision-making scenarios of the industries. Part-1 of this paper describes the applications of the BHARAT method to multi-attribute decision-making problems and Part-2 describes the evaluation of Pareto solutions using the BHARAT method in multiple objective decision-making problems.

The escalating demand for items and their consumption has exerted immense pressure on industrial production and supply chain systems, leading to adverse environmental and societal consequences. The rise in pollution rates and ecological disasters resulting from industrial production has prompted numerous scholars and industry specialists to focus on Sustainable Production and Consumption matters within the framework of Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM). The interest in sustainable supply chain management has significantly increased in recent years, spanning both business and academic sectors. This phenomenon is seen in the growing prevalence of papers, conferences, specialized periodicals, and websites exclusively focused on the subject matter. Nevertheless, the importance of sustainable development in developing economies has only just started to be acknowledged. This literature review aims to assess existing research on sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) in developing nations while considering a worldwide perspective. This paper thoroughly examines the rapid expansion of the subject from an evolutionary perspective; aimed at comprehending the progression of sustainability concerns by examining patterns across different industries, and economies, and employing diverse approaches. An extensive thematic analysis was conducted on 56 selected publications published between 2010 and 2023, emphasizing the growth and significance of the knowledge base. The analysis is conducted utilizing a descriptive and content-oriented methodology. Subsequently, the results are presented, demonstrating an increasing interest in Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM). Nevertheless, there is a conspicuous discrepancy in the extent of research carried out on this subject in emerging economies as opposed to industrialized ones. The findings indicate that the context in less developed countries plays a crucial role in carrying out empirical or case study research. Moreover, it is crucial to analyze how the integration of the three dimensions of sustainability impacts the efficiency of the supply chain, especially when considering the perspective of an emerging economy. Hence, the limitations of this investigation are delineated. Ultimately, it is crucial to do further research from multiple angles within the supply chain, encompassing collaboration, sustainable practices, innovation, sourcing, and supplier growth, with a special emphasis on the position and background of rising countries.

Automated Teller Machine (ATM) transactions are now regarded as secure, dependable, and unavoidable for meeting our financial obligations. The conventional method of utilizing an ATM requires the use of a debit card. But occasionally users run out of money in their accounts or forget their cards, which makes it difficult to execute a purchase. Mobile phone use has been an unavoidable development, similar to ATM usage. By connecting these electronic devices, it has become possible to make cash withdrawals that are both quick and secure without the use of a debit card, or “card-less cash withdrawals”. For user authentication, face detection, OTP and fingerprint scanning are used. Three tiers of security are constructed by this. If all three parameters are authenticated then and then only the user is allowed to the banking transaction.

The lean manufacturing approach is employed across several sectors to minimise waste and extend its ideas to institutional settings. The objective of this work is to provide instruction to aspiring engineers regarding the implementation and utilisation of lean tools. The machine shop of an engineering college utilised several tools, including 5S, standard work, and machine maintenance. The students were educated on the difficulties and achievements associated with the implementation of lean ideas across several tiers within the machine shop. The findings indicate that it is imperative to remove non-value-added operations, commonly referred to as Muda, in any manifestation inside the shop. A sequence of 5S audits was carried out to facilitate the enhancement of KAIZEN initiatives and uphold the shop's commitment to lean principles. The determination and assessment of the influence of lean tools on the Machine Shop were conducted through the utilisation of a questionnaire employing a five-point Likert scale. Following the implementation of lean principles, there has been a notable enhancement in several aspects. Specifically, there has been a 6.6% improvement in space utilisation, a substantial 95.12% increase in safety measures, a significant reduction of 83.3% in machine failure occurrences, and a noteworthy decrease of 80.2% in the time required for tool search.

Smart robotic wheelchairs have emerged as promising assistive devices to enhance mobility and independence for individuals with mobility impairments. The successful integration of advanced sensor systems plays a critical role in improving the functionality and safety of these wheelchairs. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the design and implementation of advanced sensor systems for smart robotic wheelchairs. Through an extensive literature review, the limitations of existing sensor technologies are identified, and the potential of advanced sensors is explored. Vision-based sensors, range and proximity sensors, force and pressure sensors, inertial sensors, and environmental sensors are discussed in detail. Furthermore, this review highlights the design considerations, hardware components, software development, and calibration procedures involved in implementing advanced sensor systems. Evaluation and performance analysis metrics are discussed to assess the effectiveness of the sensor systems. The research findings indicate that advanced sensor systems have the potential to significantly enhance the functionality and safety of smart robotic wheelchairs. However, challenges such as sensor integration, data fusion, and user feedback must be addressed. This review paper concludes by discussing the implications of advanced sensor systems in improving wheelchair functionality and user experience, and proposes future directions for research in this domain.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is an automated process of fabricating three-dimensional (3D) physical objects from a 3D-CAD data by adding layers of materials one upon another through a print head or nozzle without using any tooling components or machining environments. Due to freedom in design, any complex shape can be produced using this process. Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is one such AM technology that is commonly used for its simplicity, environment friendliness and low requirement for process monitoring. However, this technology is limited only to small-scale production due to high cost and high build time. The present work focuses on the development of a framework for parametric optimization of the FDM process using multi-objective optimization based on ratio analysis (MOORA). A CAD model of the cam follower mechanism has been prepared in the Solidworks platform and used in this experiment for optimization of build time and cost which have been considered as response variables of the experiment. The experiment has been conducted following the full factorial design of experiment (DoE) method.

Effective application of tools and techniques is critical for successful Total Quality Management (TQM) implementation. The influence of organization profile on the application of TQM tools and techniques and outcomes is investigated in Indian organizations. Correlation analysis and ANalysis Of VAriance (ANOVA) are utilized for the research. Tools and techniques are found having significant relation to the outcomes of implementation. Organization’s age, size, and turnover significantly influenced the TQM results. Organization’s size and turnover significantly influenced the application of tools and techniques. The study suggests taking the organization profile into consideration for effective implementation. Further research can be conducted in other countries.
